About the Role
Steel & Tube, New Zealand’s premier steel solutions provider with over 70 years of history, is seeking a skilled Decking & Studwelding Supervisor to join our Composite Floor Decks Limited (CFDL) team in Auckland.
This is an exciting opportunity to lead on-site installation of safety netting, metal decking, and stud welding for major construction projects. You’ll supervise a small team, ensure compliance with safety and quality standards, and coordinate with other trades to deliver exceptional results.
In this hands-on role, you’ll oversee the safe and efficient installation of metal decking and stud welding, interpret structural drawings, and conduct quality checks. You’ll manage workflows, perform site inductions, and maintain documentation using tools like Procore. The role requires strong leadership to foster teamwork, proactive problem-solving to address site challenges, and a commitment to upholding Steel & Tube’s reputation for excellence. With projects requiring nationwide travel, including a significant 4-5 month project in Tauranga/Mt Maunganui, flexibility and a passion for delivering high-quality work are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise the installation of safety netting, metal decking, and stud welding
- Lead a small team, ensuring safe and efficient operations
- Interpret structural drawings and conduct quality checks
- Coordinate with site managers and other trades to resolve issues
- Manage documentation, including site inductions, toolbox talks, and hazard registers
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, quality, and project specifications
What You'll Bring
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in steel installation or related construction work
- Competency in working at heights, steel welding, and metal deck laying
- Strong leadership, decision-making, and communication skills
- Flexibility to travel nationwide for projects (e.g., 4-5 months in Tauranga/Mt Maunganui)
- Proficiency with tools like stud welders, grinders, and power-actuated tools
- Knowledge of Health & Safety procedures and documentation systems (e.g., Procore)
- Desirable: Carpentry or construction experience; stud welding training provided
