About the Role

Steel & Tube, a proud New Zealand company with over 70 years of history, is seeking a passionate Customer Experience Team Leader to join our Distribution team in Christchurch. This role is ideal for an experienced leader or supervisor ready to take the next step, eager to drive superior customer service and sales growth in the construction and manufacturing sectors.

 

As the CX Team Leader, you’ll lead a team of Customer Experience Consultants, fostering a ‘One Company’ culture to achieve performance targets and deliver exceptional service. You’ll work closely with Sales and Operations Managers to ensure seamless customer experiences, develop team capabilities through coaching to ensure our purpose of “making life easier for our customers" is achieved.

 

This role is pivotal in driving customer interactions, collaborative stakeholder engagement, a strong sales culture and supporting the National CX Manager deliver team coaching and training initiatives. You’ll leverage your industry knowledge to address customer challenges, promote Steel & Tube’s diverse product range, and contribute to profitable growth.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership: Lead, coach, and develop the CX team to meet performance and quality targets, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
  • Customer Excellence: Drive your team to build strong relationships with key customers, address concerns promptly, and ensure ‘right product, right place, right time’ delivery.
  • Sales Support: Collaborate with Account Managers to identify growth opportunities, overcome barriers, and drive profitable sales.
  • Training & Development: Coordinate and deliver product, process, and safety training, working with the L&D Manager to enhance team skills.
  • Process Improvement: Oversee exception reports, manage un-invoiced orders, and lead continuous improvement in customer service processes.
  • Safety & Compliance: Uphold health, safety, and environmental standards, ensuring a safe and compliant workplace.

 

About You

You’re a proactive leader or a supervisor ready to step up, with a passion for customer service, sales and team development. You have proven experience in leading teams to achieve sales and service goals, ideally in the steel, roofing, or building industries. Your strong communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills enable you to deliver value to customers and inspire your team. Familiarity with Microsoft AX or similar systems is a plus, as is knowledge of the building industry.
