Steel & Tube, a cornerstone of New Zealand’s infrastructure for over 70 years, seeks a skilled Compliance Supervisor to join our Galvanising division, based in Hamilton (preferred, Auckland considered). Reporting to the General Manager, QHSET, you’ll oversee compliance across four sites—Hamilton, Christchurch, Wellington, and Auckland—ensuring safety, environmental, and quality standards in our galvanising and heavy manufacturing operations.

 

In this pivotal role, you’ll manage environmental consents (air, water, soil), hazardous substances, and compliance relationships with councils and stakeholders, while embedding robust systems and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. You’ll engage with plant operators to implement maintenance practices and capital programs, ensuring ongoing compliance. With hands-on leadership, you’ll drive adherence to NZ’s HSWA Act, EPA requirements, and ISO standards (9001 mandatory, 14001/45001 preferred), using tools like Intelex for audits and incident management.

 

You’ll have real experience in environmental management, resource consents, and building strong compliance relationships with councils and stakeholders. You pride yourself in operating at all levels, with practical skills to engage plants and operators, to deliver maintenance and capital programs, achieving sustained compliance.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee QHSE compliance across four galvanising sites, focusing on high-risk activities.
  • Manage environmental consents, discharges, and hazardous substances per RMA and EPA.
  • Engage with WorkSafe NZ, councils, and stakeholders for inspections and reporting.
  • Implement maintenance practices and capital programs to ensure compliance.
  • Drive ISO 9001 standards and continuous improvement using digital platforms like Intelex.

 

About You:

  • Proven experience in galvanising/heavy manufacturing and environmental compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of HSWA Act, EPA, RMA, and hazardous substance management.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement with councils, WorkSafe, and operational teams
  • Practical skills to engage with plants/operators for maintenance and compliance.
  • Lead Auditor qualification or ICAM training highly desirable
