Steel & Tube, New Zealand’s premier steel solutions provider with over 70 years of expertise, is seeking a skilled and motivated Machine Operator to join our Auckland team. Reporting to the Production Supervisor, you’ll operate state-of-the-art rollforming, folding, and cut-to-length machines to process purlins and girts, contributing to high-quality steel products that shape the nation’s infrastructure. This role is perfect for a career-driven individual with a mechanical mindset and a passion for delivering excellence in a dynamic manufacturing environment.

 

As a Machine Operator, you’ll handle advanced purlin and girt rollforming machines, ensuring precise production while maintaining safety and quality standards. Your day-to-day tasks will include setting up and operating machinery, troubleshooting issues, and collaborating with a tight-knit team to meet production goals. With comprehensive training provided, you’ll gain a deep understanding of our processes and products, with opportunities to grow your skills in a supportive, safety-focused workplace. The role requires physical fitness to handle steel products safely and computer literacy to operate automated systems, making it ideal for someone who thrives on technical challenges and teamwork.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate rollforming for purlins and girts
  • Perform quality checks to ensure products meet specifications
  • Troubleshoot and resolve machine or process issues efficiently
  • Collaborate with team members to maintain production schedules
  • Uphold safety standards under the Health & Safety at Work Act 2015

About You:

  • Experience running purlin/girt rollforming machines or similar equipment
  • Computer-literate with a keen eye for detail and problem-solving
  • Physically fit to handle steel products safely
  • Team player with a positive attitude and commitment to quality
  • Experience in engineering or manufacturing environments is a plus
