About the Role
Steel & Tube, a proud New Zealand company with over 70 years of history as one of the country's leading providers of steel solutions, is seeking an experienced people leader for our Roofing division in Christchurch.
You’ll lead a team of Customer Experience Consultants, shaping a high-performance culture that puts customers first while driving sales growth and exceptional service. This hands-on leadership role combines strategic oversight with day-to-day coaching, empowering your team to handle complex roofing queries, deliver 'right product, right place, right time' outcomes, and contribute to national growth in sectors like infrastructure, commercial, and rural projects.
You’ll champion our 'One Company' culture, foster seamless collaboration across sales, operations, and branches, and play a key role in cultural shift: elevating conversation quality, customer satisfaction, and a genuine sales-positive approach without ever losing sight of what exceptional customer experience looks like.
What You’ll Lead
- Creating an environment where agents feel confident, supported, and motivated to perform at their best
- Driving a culture shift that elevates conversation quality, customer satisfaction, and team morale
- Coaching with purpose—helping people understand the why, not just the what, to build capability and confidence
- Encouraging high-performance mindsets, celebrating wins (big and small), and recognising contributions
- Supporting a sales-positive culture while ensuring customers remain at the heart of every interaction
- Overseeing daily coordination to meet SLAs, analysing performance metrics (e.g., uninvoiced orders, margins), and driving process improvements
- Partnering with Account and Area Managers to uncover growth opportunities, resolve sales barriers, and promote our diverse roofing product range
- Championing safety, compliance, and continuous training in technical, product, and safety areas
What You Bring
- Proven leadership experience, ideally within sales, customer service, contact centre, or related high-performing team environments
- Strong coaching capability with a genuine passion for developing people and building capability
- Ability to influence, inspire, and lead cultural change in a collaborative setting
- A growth mindset with energy, resilience, and a drive to deliver measurable results
- Deep commitment to creating exceptional customer experiences
- Industry knowledge (roofing, steel, building, or construction sectors) is highly valued; supervisory or leadership experience in similar fields will stand out
- Excellent communication, analytical skills, problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement
- Familiarity with systems like Microsoft AX (or similar) is advantageous
