Based at the National Support Centre, you’ll play a vital role in keeping product flowing to support customer service while maintaining efficient inventory levels.
About the Role:
We’re looking for a capable Buyer to ensure our national purchasing process delivers high levels of customer service while keeping inventory and costs under control. Reporting to the Category Manager, you’ll manage the end-to-end reorder process for inventory by product group and vendor, raise purchase orders, confirm delivery timelines, liaise with logistics partners for air and sea shipments, and handle all associated administration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Regularly review inventory levels and master planning data
- Monitor open orders and GITs, update FX hedging information
- Ensure test certificates are received and processed, and support the S&OP process with timely data and reports
- You’ll also drive savings initiatives, contribute to monthly insights
- Follow up on supplier performance, and assist with process improvements to make our national operations more coordinated and cost-effective
- Collaborate closely with Category Managers, branches, finance, and national product specialists
The position requires strong attention to detail, systematic thinking, and the ability to analyse complex data and then turn it into clear, actionable decisions. You’ll build and maintain positive long-term relationships with key suppliers while always considering the impact on cash flow and inventory targets. About You:
You’ll bring previous experience in a buyer or purchasing role, ideally within distribution, manufacturing, or an industrial environment (steel or fastenings experience is highly advantageous but not essential.
You’ll possess strong analytical ability and a solid understanding of the purchasing and supply chain process, strong Excel skills and the ability to analyse data, draw conclusions, and execute effectively. ERP/MRP experience is valuable, as is any background in building materials, merchants, or industrial procurement.
Commercially aware and solutions-focused, you communicate clearly, build trust with suppliers and internal teams, and thrive in a fast-paced setting where you balance multiple priorities. A relevant qualification (working towards or holding NZPICS, CIPS, or tertiary study in procurement/supply chain) is desirable.
