About the Role
Reporting to the Group Freight, Logistics & Procurement Controls Manager and based at our Bruce Roderick site in Auckland, this hands-on position ensures our indirect procurement processes effectively support customer service excellence while keeping costs at budgeted levels. You will provide high-quality administration support, maintain adherence to supply agreements, and help meet capital investment targets across the business.
Indirect procurement at Steel & Tube covers the full end-to-end buying process for non-production items, including negotiating, reviewing and implementing contracts, selecting the best-fit suppliers for the value chain, and managing all related administration. The role gives you the opportunity to develop and implement a Category Management Plan, oversee a broad range of indirect spend (utilities, vehicles, freight, digital services, HR requirements, consumables and group-wide service contracts such as cleaning and gardening), and contribute to the smooth operation of our national distribution and processing network.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a Category Management Plan for all Indirect spend
- Build and maintain long-term, mutually beneficial relationships with key suppliers
- Monitor supplier performance against SLAs and resolve issues promptly
- Negotiate, implement and maintain contracts across indirect categories
- Support the procurement process for capital expenditure (capex) projects
- Manage fleet (passenger, light and heavy commercial vehicles)
- Maintain the contract database, supplier registers and accurate records
- Track invoices to prevent overpayments and ensure supplier approval processes are followed
- Ensure all procurement practices align with company-wide strategies and standards
- Actively support health, safety and environmental objectives, including hazard identification and timely incident reporting
About You
- Experience in a similar role – purchasing/supply chain/procurement
- Strong Communication Skills
- Sound experience with Microsoft Office (particularly Excel), Experience with a large ERP system
- Able to form sustainable relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
- A strategic thinker with excellent problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail
