About the Role
We’re seeking an experienced Logistics Manager to play a pivotal role in our Auckland Distribution Centre. You will be responsible for the effective planning and management of inbound materials, transport operations both into and out of the DC, and the daily leadership of our drivers and Transport Coordinators.
In this hands-on position, you will oversee inbound shipment planning and load management, work closely with Group S&OP and Procurement teams to align volumes with site capacity, and ensure GIT is cleared efficiently. You’ll manage two Transport Coordinators handling day-to-day truck scheduling and administration, while supporting the performance and compliance of company drivers. A key focus will be driving continuous improvement in logistics processes to enhance cost efficiency, on-time delivery performance (DIFOTIS), and overall operational excellence in our fast-paced steel distribution environment. This role offers the opportunity to make a tangible impact on service levels and operational costs while maintaining the highest standards of health, safety, and quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and manage inbound materials and transport to optimise site capacity and meet customer demands.
- Lead and develop two Transport Coordinators and support the management of company drivers, including training, compliance, and performance.
- Champion QHSET standards, including driver inductions, incident investigation, and achieving quality and safety targets.
- Collaborate with Sales, Customer Service, Planning, and Procurement teams to improve communications and service delivery.
- Manage freight budgeting elements, verify invoices, and process transit damage claims.
- Represent the DC in Group S&OP processes and drive continuous improvement in logistics operations.
- Foster strong relationships with internal teams, customers, and external freight contractors.
About You
Bring 3-5 years’ experience in logistics planning, transport management, and ideally materials management in a distribution, trucking, or industrial environment like steel. You have strong knowledge of health & safety practices (including toolbox talks), proven ability to use ERP systems for planning, and sound budgeting/forecasting skills. As an energetic leader who challenges the status quo, you excel at building relationships, solving complex operational problems, and delivering results through your team. A diploma (or equivalent) in supply chain, planning, or operations management is desirable, with supervisory experience and a Class 5 licence highly advantageous.
