About the Role
We’re looking for a dedicated QHSET Advisor to support the development and implementation of our Quality, Health, Safety, Environment and Training strategies, policies and practices. Reporting to the General Manager QHSET, you will help maintain a comprehensive programme that keeps our people free from harm, ensures legal compliance, and aligns with best-practice standards across our distribution and infrastructure businesses.
This is a practical, hands-on role. You will administer and maintain QHSET systems, drive ISO certification compliance (9001, 14001 and 45001), support the full incident management process, steward corrective actions, and contribute to risk assessments and control development. You will also develop and run monthly traceability audit schedules, conduct audits at sites, deliver safety education and awareness training, participate in or observe site inspections, and help create safety communications such as toolbox talks, safety moments and meeting packages.
The position requires flexibility to manage multiple priorities across different sites and business areas while fostering a strong culture of accountability, ownership and continuous improvement. You will work closely with area and national managers, site teams, and external parties.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide timely support and reporting to the GM QHSET while handling simultaneous QHSET tasks across infrastructure and distribution.
- Ensure compliance with NZ Health & Safety legislation, environmental requirements, codes of practice, and Steel & Tube policies, procedures and standards.
- Manage and maintain QHSE systems and ISO certification implementation and ongoing compliance.
- Assist in developing, reviewing and updating QHSE standards, procedures and rules for consistency and best-practice alignment.
- Support the incident management lifecycle (reporting, notification, data gathering, investigation support, corrective action development) and steward the corrective action process.
- Deliver hands-on safety education and awareness training; participate in or observe site safety inspections and recommend improvements.
- Develop and execute monthly traceability audit schedules and perform audits at distribution and infrastructure sites.
- Facilitate risk assessments and assist with engineering or administrative controls as directed.
- Help ensure staff, contractors and suppliers meet legislative and company QHSET requirements.
- Contribute to safety communication materials including toolbox talks, safety meeting packages and quarterly/annual QHSE meetings.
- Promote a workplace culture of accountability, ownership and continuous improvement in QHSET performance.
